Adding a splash of colour

Updated on: November 4 2013

A trend for brighter and bolder décor seems to be emerging among a range of small hotels, bed and breakfasts, cottages and guesthouses. By adding a splash of colour you don’t run the risk of overpowering the room and you can inject a bit of personality into it. This teamed with neutral colours helps you achieve a modern sophisticated feeling of serenity and style for your guestroom.

This trend can be pulled off perfectly with a few strategically placed items around the room. Add mood improving colours such as orange, yellow, fuscia, red and purple against a neutral background. Look for the same colour palette in:

  • Bed runners
  • Cushions
  • Wall art
  • lamps

A great idea is to do a different colour theme for each of your guestrooms. This will really give your establishment that boutique feel that so many guests currently crave. Showcasing these rooms on your website will allow people to pick their favourite. Before you know it you will be having requests for the ‘purple room’ and more. Why not take it further and give each room a quirky name? Rooms with pops of blue could be called the Bluebird room.
